I have my own peculiar ways of studying and I am sure you have yours. Some people understand their readings more when done in the confines of the peace and quiet of their libraries. I agree but the library hours are limited. Unless you have a 24-hour library, then it would be awesome.
This leads me to the subject of reading in coffee shops. I am more productive when I read in a quiet corner in a coffee shop. However, the recent coffee shop incident in Sydney made me think twice if it is worth it to venture outside. What if some crazy dude suddenly holds out some weapon and how do I escape? Crazy as it may sound, now I have to think about going to one with various entry and exit points. This consideration ruled out my favorite coffee nook because it only has one entrance/exit point unless I am willing to scale the building wall.
Of course there are hundreds of them shops in the metro but only a handful would be open 24 hours or has ample parking and most of these shops are almost always full. It could also get very noisy during rush hour thereby hampering any attempt at concentration. Nevertheless, I do not discount entirely the fact that coffee shops are one of the best places to do some reading.
Reading at home has its own hits and misses. I have my own study/office room where I have access to everything. Free Wifi connection often impede my plan to ready uninterruptedly. I find it so hard to resist and I would often end up working when I am in my study room so it takes a lot of discipline to to get some serious reading done.
I guess it really depends on ones quirks which location will works. I definitely would like to have one with free flowing coffee and tea, ample light snacks, some light weights, a sleeping couch for those short naps and and definitely limited WiFi.
How about you? Where do you often study? Do you have a favorite place you would like to share?
